Eastern Virginia Chapter News

The Eastern Virginia Chapter hosted a very well-received Fall Conference entitled “The Wish to Change: Working with Unconscious Resistance in Psychotherapy” at Riverside Behavioral Health Center in Hampton on October 23, 2009. Susan H. Stones, LCSW, FIPA, a Certified Psychoanalyst at The Psychotherapy Center and long time VSCSW member was an exceptional trainer who educated attendees in techniques to work with a person’s defenses and learning to differentiate when to use supportive vs. interpretive interventions. The information was so helpful to participants that discussions are in process to bring Susan back for a series of presentations in the coming year.

We are also in the process of putting the finishing touches on our annual Ethics conference planned for April in Hampton. Please be on the lookout for this historically well-attended and informative conference.

We welcome LCSWs in the Eastern Region to join our group. Connecting with fellow clinical social workers is so rewarding and fosters all of our continued professional development.

Ann Graham, LCSW
Sharon Payne, LCSW
Co-Chairs, Eastern Virginia
