Roanoke Chapter
8/7/2010 10:01:33 AM After a holiday break in December, our Roanoke Chapter resumed our monthly educational luncheons at 419 West Restaurant on the third Wednesday of each month. January featured Dr. Thomas Rowell, who presented an excellent program on the current interventions for substance abuse. In February, VSCSW collaborated with Carilion Clinic and Hollins University to feature Dr. Felicity Adams on Affective Instability with Young Women. March is typically our Radford MSW student presentations, and Wes Brusseau talked about his research with Partner Intimate Violence in Same-Sex Relationships. In April, Teresa Lanahan presented on her work with EMDR. Our last presentation for this 2009-2010 year was offered by Neil DeMasters who presented on EAP services.
Roanoke has been fortunate to have a steady membership of involved and active members. We would like to invite any of our social work colleagues in our surrounding area to consider joining our group and bring new ideas and energy into our chapter. Currently, we have a peer supervision group meeting monthly with a potluck dinner to consult on difficult treatment issues. A group of VSCSW members presented a panel presentation to Radford MSW students on the realities of social work after graduate school. This summer, our local Board will be busy planning next year’s events, and we welcome any and all new ideas to continue our tradition of excellent educational presentations. jchig23@comcast.net
