2007-2008 Board of Directors
Blue Ridge Chapter
Julie Hughens retired from clinical social work practice in July 2007
after 15 years of psychotherapy practice and 27 years of social work experience. She lives
in Charlottesville with her husband John and their two cats, Buddy and Homer.
She is enjoying her newfound leisure by being very self-indulgent most of the time, but
also making some time to do volunteer work with her church, the Jefferson Area Board
for Aging and VSCSW. She often wonders how she ever had time to work.
Julie graduated from Baylor University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Social Work Degree and
received her MSW degree from Virginia Commonwealth in 1987. She has worked in social
services, a private psychiatric hospital and in private practice.
Julie has been active with the Blue Ridge Chapter of VSCSW for over 10 years. She has
served as Chapter Secretary, Chapter Chair, State Board Treasurer, State Board President,
and as Secretary to the Clinical Social Work Federation. She considers her years of
involvement with VSCSW to be a highlight of her professional career, and treasures the
personal and professional relationships developed through VSCSW.
