Roanoke Chapter Report

Our chapter is looking forward to 2012. Our membership has grown to 35. Many of the new members are from the Blacksburg-Christiansburg area as well as the immediate area surrounding Roanoke. We hope to bring more interest in VSCSW among the professionals further west.

We have set a goal to increase interest and involvement among the MSW students at Radford University
this year. Wes Brusseau, MSW, is a 2010 graduate of that program. He serves as the Education chair on our local board. One of his duties is securing two senior MSW students to present their research projects at our March luncheon meeting. In the past this has been a popular program. Each participating student receives a one year new graduate membership.

We also offer a panel discussion regarding Clincal Social Work in the Real World to the Radford MSW students just before graduation. Members of our chapter serve on the panel. This has been well received in the past.

We continue to offer members Peer Supervision on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 pm.
Peggy Holland, LCSW, CSAC, and Joanne Chiglinsky, LCSW, alternate hosting the potluck supper and supervision at their respective offices.

Our next Luncheon meeting will be January 18, at 419 West on Electric Rd. in Roanoke. Katie Snead, LPC, EAT, of the Dept. of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at Carilion Clinic will speak on Expressive Therapy Practices Used in aPsychiatric Setting.
